- Executive Director, CERFnet
-
- Susan has been involved with the Internet community for 8 years. Starting
- with the original NSFnet in 1985 and continuing on with the organization and
- implementation of the California Education and Research Federation Network
- (CERFnet), she has shown her commitment and enthusiasm for the Internet
- concept. Additionally, she has been involved with various organizations
- benefiting Internetworking. She has served as the Vice President of
- FARNET and as a member of the board. She is a cofounder and currently the
- President of the Commercial Internet Exchange (CIX). For one year, she
- acted as the co-area director for the Operational Requirements Area of the
- IETF and served as a member of the IESG.
- Prior to her current employment, she worked for Pacific Telephone and AT&T
- in various engineering and product development roles. She has a degree in
- engineering from UCLA.

-
- I have been involved with the Internet for almost 8 years and plan to
- continue my involvement. The Internet Society has the opportunity to be
- a dynamic force in the Internet world. It needs to provide substance for
- the professional development of its membership. It must find out what
- the membership needs and find appropriate mechanisms to meet those needs.
- The first year of the Internet Society has been, on the whole, uneventful.
- I would like to help the Internet Society reach a well-respected status in
- the community and from peer communities. I believe that the only way of
- accomplishing this is to make the Society much more visible, though a
- limited number of dynamic projects. The Society is needed, but it must
- show some momentum soon.
