  12. Susan has been involved with the Internet community for 8 years.  Starting
  13. with the original NSFnet in 1985 and continuing on with the organization and
  14. implementation of the California Education and Research Federation Network
  15. (CERFnet), she has shown her commitment and enthusiasm for the Internet
  16. concept.  Additionally, she has been involved with various organizations
  17. benefiting Internetworking.  She has served as the Vice President of
  18. FARNET and as a member of the board.  She is a cofounder and currently the
  19. President of the Commercial Internet Exchange (CIX).  For one year, she
  20. acted as the co-area director for the Operational Requirements Area of the
  21. IETF and served as a member of the IESG.
  22. Prior to her current employment, she worked for Pacific Telephone and AT&T
  23. in various engineering and product development roles.  She has a degree in
  24. engineering from UCLA.

  28. I have been involved with the Internet for almost 8 years and plan to
  29. continue my involvement.  The Internet Society has the opportunity to be 
  30. a dynamic force in the Internet world.  It needs to provide substance for
  31. the professional development of its membership.  It must find out what
  32. the membership needs and find appropriate mechanisms to meet those needs.  
  33. The first year of the Internet Society has been, on the whole, uneventful.
  34. I would like to help the Internet Society reach a well-respected status in
  35. the community and from peer communities.  I believe that the only way of
  36. accomplishing this is to make the Society much more visible, though a
  37. limited number of dynamic projects.  The Society is needed, but it must
  38. show some momentum soon.
